Counsellors are trained practitioners in talking therapy who work with people over a short or long term to help them bring about effective change and/or enhance their wellbeing when struggling to work through things on their own*. For a lot of people talking therapy works as well or more effectively than medication.
In my experience, greater self-awareness offers greater self-acceptance and esteem. This helps deal with the barriers that stop you living the life you want and making the healthy relationships you want to. This can be a very powerful process that you can take with you throughout your life.
